Pilgrims of Hope: Walking in the World in the Spirit of Francis

The Franciscan spirit is one of openness and itinerancy, walking in the world as it is with humility and freedom. Over the last several years, this world has been shaped by a pandemic, wars and violence, and ecological destruction. Yet, the world remains holy and good, and Christians are called to witness the goodness of God in every circumstance. With this reality in mind, Pope Francis has named the motto of the jubilee year 2025 “pilgrims of hope.” Imagery from the early Franciscan movement, especially the life of St. Francis and Bonaventure’s Journey of the Mind into God, demonstrates that walking the world as pilgrims of hope brings God’s blessings and goodness to a world greatly in need of the Good News.
