FST Announces Two Successful Reaccreditations

The Franciscan School of Theology is proud to announce that it has been awarded a six-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and a ten-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).

The WSCUC letter of reaccreditation commends FST for the “successful moving and integration of Franciscan culture and mission into the community on the new campus of the Old Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, California.” It also acknowledges the commitment of both the Franciscan School of Theology and the University of San Diego for their institutional partnership and commends the school for “fostering an environment that is welcoming to women, where lay men, women, and friars study side by side and learn from one another.”

The ATS letter highlights “the school’s exceptionally clear sense of mission and purpose, including its vision to be the center of Franciscan graduate theological education in the English speaking world, its way of integrating the Franciscan charism into the coursework and community life (‘transforming heart and mind, changing the world’), and its intentionality around sharing the Franciscan spirit with both lay and religious students within and beyond its local community.”

The Franciscan School of Theology congratulates its staff, faculty, administrators, trustees, alumni and students whose dedication and hard work are responsible for sustaining and improving upon our success as an institution. We are committed to building upon our successes and to working to improve those areas that require further development.
