This lecture series offers an overview of the Book of Genesis. Pope Benedict XVI had reminded us: “Spiritually, we are all Semites.” With this in mind, we will approach the Book of Genesis as a type of formation handbook where we hear about the spiritual journey and development of our fathers and mother ins faith. Genesis helps us understand our beginnings in goodness and blessing. This blessing is challenged by the freedom to sin inherent in our status as human but is always answered by a God of forgiveness. We see this relationship develop between God and humanity in the stories and spiritual journeys of Noah, Abraham, and Jacob. We will conclude in Egypt with an ever-deepening bond between God and Israel. The six lectures in the series are Introduction, Creation, Primeval, Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph.
