2021 Franciscan Zoom Lecture #9: Dr. C. Michael Weldon
Preaching in a Franciscan Key
Please see the YouTube Channel FST EDU1 after July 12 for this recorded July 1 lecture and other lectures.
Friar Kenan Osborn used to say that Franciscan evangelization defined itself as a “humanizing” after the pattern of Jesus. Gospel proclamation is a singular task of the gathered disciples of Jesus. A humanizing Gospel marks the style and content of the Seraphic “order of preachers,” there is only one Gospel proclaimed by the church. Proclamation in a Franciscan key has some distinctive characteristics and elements of style available from the earliest sources of the life of St Francis. Fr. Michael Weldon will explore some of these elements using his own experience as a friar preacher and teacher of homiletics. While not a definitive study, this lecture will present some snapshots and bullet points of conversation from this rich vein in the Western Church.
