The Franciscan School of Theology is now located on the campus of the University of San Diego (USD).
“Our move to the USD campus builds upon our relationship with USD and provides FST an opportunity to explore new ways of expressing and sharing our faith and service,”…”We are excited about bringing together the spiritual, theological and social riches of the Franciscan tradition and USD’s excellence in contemporary sciences, non-profit management, public service, peace work and more. USD’s strong dedication to its Catholic heritage and its vibrant Catholic community create a supportive environment for graduate studies in theology in the Franciscan intellectual tradition.” – Fr. Michael J. Higgins, TOR, president of FST
FST temporary facilities at USD are located adjacent to the St. Francis Center for Priestly Formation.
FST is privileged to also offer courses for its continuing students on the grounds of Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, the “King of the Missions,” in Oceanside, California, located just north of San Diego. The Mission community is a large part of the FST Oceanside experience. Students regularly take advantage of attending noon-day Mass in the Historic Church, and the largest and most diverse Franciscan friary in California is also situated on the campus grounds. An active parish and retreat center adjacent to the school provides many options for ministry. Outside the Mission grounds, students encounter opportunities to integrate academics with experiential learning.
Having classes offered at both locations in the greater San Diego County provides diverse ministry possibilities ranging from work with migrant farm workers to ministry in one of the many hospitals found in the area.
