From its historic campus on the grounds of Mission San Luis Rey, to the beautiful environment and climate of Southern California, the Franciscan School of Theology benefits from its unique location.

The school is located on the grounds of Old Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, California, just north of San Diego. Lying between the metropolitan areas of San Diego and Los Angeles, downtown Oceanside offers the Southern California experience with a small-town feel. Beaches, restaurants, arts and culture, hiking and surfing are just some of the attractions to be found in Northern San Diego County. The city of San Diego itself is a train ride away.

FST is privileged to be situated at the “King of the Missions,” Mission San Luis Rey de Francia. The Mission community is part of the FST experience. Students regularly take advantage of attending noon-day Mass in the Historic Church, and the largest and most diverse Franciscan friary in California is also situated on the campus grounds.

Outside the Mission grounds students will encounter opportunities to integrate academics with experiential learning. An active parish and retreat center adjacent to the school provide many options for ministry. Beyond the parish, the greater San Diego county provides additional ministry possibilities ranging from work with migrant farm workers to ministry in one of the many hospitals found in the area.
