Winter Franciscan Zoom Lectures

Sheltering in place has brought to light the significant value of bringing experts in the vibrant Franciscan tradition to public view on a global scale. To this end, the Franciscan School of Theology has been asking these experts to present some of their research and findings to the FST Community and beyond. Please look to our News and Events section for details on upcoming lectures throughout the winter of 2021 as more speaking engagements are arranged via Zoom and then recorded and available on the FST YouTube Channel of FST EDU1.

Winter 2021 Continuing Education

Continuing Education at the Franciscan School of Theology offers affordable, high-quality instruction by some of the world’s foremost Franciscan scholars and educators. FST continuing education courses are open to the public and take place online.

The Challenges and Blessings of Catholic Family Life Today

With its foundation in Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation, Amoris Laetitia [The Joy of Love], this continuing-education course will examine the American family’s social role through a theological lens. Specifically, this course will explore the stresses and graces American families encounter. It will also discuss the ways parishes can better serve families as well as generate ways to invite families to become active in their Church and world. This conversation will be shaped through special attention to five virtues: love, tenderness, beauty, generosity and gratitude. Students will walk away with a rich understanding of the realities of contemporary families as well as ideas as to how they might better accompany the families in their communities.

Classes will be offered online via Zoom from 9:15 am – 12:30 pm Pacific time from Monday, January 18 to Friday, January 22.

Day One – Love: What family was, what family wasn’t, and what do we want today?

Day Two – Tenderness: Romantic love

Day Three – Beauty: Diversity among families

Day Four – Generosity: Children and domestic church

Day Five – Gratitude: Binding the family

“She has an extraordinary pastoral presence and gentleness in the midst of discussing challenging issues.”
