International Students

The Franciscan School of Theology is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students. International students come to FST to obtain a degree, study abroad for a semester or year, or for a sabbatical. More information about our programs can be found on our Degrees and Programs page.

We encourage you to let us know of your interest in applying to FST as early as possible so that we may follow up with you regarding deadlines and requirements specific to International students. Please see “Visas” below for links to US Government resources to help you plan your study abroad.

 Apply to FST

International applicants follow the same application procedures as other prospective students, with a few added steps. Our admissions office is at your service to help you navigate the process. The components of a complete application for International students are listed below. You can find more information about these components on our admissions page.

The easiest way to apply to FST is to complete the online application, uploading the supporting documents as they are ready. Alternatively, you can download the application form and upload the completed form with your other documents or submit it via mail, email, or fax. If supporting documents arrive before your application, they will be attached to your application when it arrives. Please remember to review all admissions requirements carefully before applying.

International degree-seeking applicants and those applying to study abroad must submit the following:

  • The Franciscan School of Theology Application
  • $55 Application Fee ($US)
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate (college or university) studies
  • Official English translations of transcripts if written in a language other than English
  • Three letters of recommendation: One ministerial and two academic
  • TOEFL score (Exception to the TOEFL requirement may be made for students who earned their earlier degree at an English-speaking institution. FST’s TOEFL number is 5736.)
  • Financial Declaration Form for International Students
  • Members of a religious order or community must provide a letter of permission from the appropriate supervisor or community leader.

International Students applying for sabbatical study submit the following:

International students may not enroll in classes until they have obtained the appropriate visa. To avoid delays in enrollment, we encourage you to let us know of your interest in applying to FST as early as possible so that we may follow up with you regarding deadlines and requirements specific to studying abroad. Our admissions department is happy to help you during this process.
