  • What do graduates do with their MDiv degrees? Many MDiv graduates will become ordained priests in the Catholic Church or enter lay ministry in faith-based or secular organizations. Other graduates work in chaplaincy, education, community organizing, justice and advocacy, retreat centers, catechetics, or Christian initiation.
  • How does FST serve military and veteran students? Yes. FST proudly serves active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, veterans, and their dependents. We accept Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits, active-duty tuition assistance, and other veteran education benefits. Our admissions team is committed to supporting you throughout the process so you can continue your mission of service to both your country and your faith.
  • What do graduates do with their MA degrees? A Master of Arts holder can enter a wide range of careers with their degree, provided they have any additional required preparation. MA graduates have gone on to become theological researchers, PhD students, religious or secular secondary school teachers, diocesan catechetical leaders, lay ecclesial ministers, and community ministers.
  • What do graduates do with their MTS degrees? The answer is — almost anything they want! The Master of Theological Studies – Franciscan Theology degree provides an academic foundation for those who want to teach at the elementary or secondary level; those who want to provide support in their parish; counselors who work in hospitals, private clinics, or social services; or anyone who wishes to deepen their connection to their faith, whether in their personal or professional lives. The MTS program is also excellent preparation for those who wish to pursue further advanced degrees or academic research. Please be aware of any additional degree or licensure requirements for your desired profession.
  • Does FST offer personal enrichment opportunities? Yes. FST offers flexible non-degree and personal enrichment courses for those seeking to deepen their theological understanding or spiritual life. We also provide affordable, high-quality Continuing Education summer courses in Franciscan spirituality, theology, and history, open to anyone interested in spiritual renewal or intellectual growth.
  • What are the application deadlines? Applications for the Fall semester are due by July 15, with all materials submitted at least one month before the first day of classes. Applications for the Spring semester are due by December 15, with all materials submitted at least one month before the start of the Spring term.
  • I am interested in attending but unsure of a degree program. Can I take courses part-time? Both degree and non-degree students can attend the Franciscan School part-time. If you are undecided about enrolling in a degree program, you may register as a non-degree student. Up to 24 non-degree credits may be transferred to a degree program.
  • What’s the Difference Between the Annual Fund and a Restricted Fund? The Annual Fund is an unrestricted fund that allows FST to use your gift where it is needed most. These gifts support essential areas such as student services, technology upgrades, faculty support, classroom resources, and the ongoing development of academic programs. A restricted fund allows you to direct your gift to a specific purpose—such as Lay Scholarships, Religious Scholarships, the FST Faculty Development Fund, or the Franciscan Heritage Endowment Fund. Restricted gifts provide direct support to students and programs you care most about. Both types of gifts are vital and make a meaningful impact on the Franciscan School of Theology.
